The All-New Apple Watch Is About To Become Way More Accessible!

Ian Mackay, an avid user of smart gadgets, has been using everything from smart lights to window shades to fans. He has been using the Apple technology for pretty much everything, but he has never used the Apple Watch. The reason behind this isn’t the lack of interest but his disability. Due to a bicycle crash, Mackay was left entirely paralyzed from the shoulder down, and an Apple Watch didn’t seem to have any practicality in his life.

However, he believes that features like sleep tracking and biometrics could be very valuable to him.

Leveraging iPhone Accessibility Tools

In no time, Mackay and several others in a similar situation will now have the opportunity to use the Apple Watch that is specifically tailored to meet their needs.

Apple Watch Mirroring is a feature Apple is working on, which allows a paired iPhone to give access to apps, health sensors, and other features on the watch. Users will also be able to control an Apple Watch using standard iPhone accessibility features like Voice Control and Switch Control. They are used as alternative forms of input, like external switches and, of course, the front-facing camera.

Apple is not the only tech company that is doing this amazing work on improving accessibility. But the way Apple Watch Mirroring takes advantage of various products in the Apple ecosystem to create an experience unlike any other is something many can’t achieve.

The main reason behind it is that Apple is in charge of the product’s own hardware and software. So, users who are already comfortable with the accessibility features of an iPhone can apply the same skills in order to use the Apple Watch.

Accessibility Enhancements

Apple Watch Mirroring is one of the many enhancements that will be seen in the Apple Watch, following the Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

This is a list of some of the enhancements that will be seen in the new Apple Watch.

  • Live Captions: they will transcribe the audio automatically on iPhones, iPads, and Macs, which makes apps like FaceTime all the more useful for individuals who can’t hear the caller on them.
  • Door Detection: the iPhone Magnifier app will include this upgrade, which will assist the blinded and low-vision individuals whenever they approach the doors. It will also announce how far away the door is along with reading the signage, such as operating hours. Furthermore, this feature also explains whether the upcoming door involves pulling a handle, turning a knob, or some other kind of action.

All these accessibility updates will be rolling out officially in late 2022.
